Many people are interested in becoming counsellors and supporting the wellbeing of others. Counselling is a professional field that requires training, supervised practice, and ongoing learning.

At present, formal degree programmes in counselling are still limited in Myanmar. For those who have the opportunity, we strongly encourage pursuing recognised higher education programmes in counselling, psychology, or related mental health fields through universities or accredited institutions.

Formal education provides a strong foundation in counselling theory, ethics, and professional practice.

Learning Counselling in Myanmar

For individuals who are interested in learning counselling skills within Myanmar, several training programmes are available to introduce the foundations of counselling practice.

These programmes can help learners develop basic knowledge and practical skills in listening, communication, and ethical helping relationships.

Recommended training programmes include:

  • Basic Counselling Skills Training - Counselling Corner
  • Intermediate Counselling Skills Training - Counselling Corner
  • Advanced Counselling Skills Training - Couselling Corner

These training programmes focus on developing counselling skills through experiential learning, practice sessions, and guided reflection.

Practice and Supervised Learning

Learning counselling skills requires more than classroom training. Practical experience and supervision are important parts of developing competence as a counsellor.

We encourage learners to seek internship or placement opportunities under supervision, where they can observe practice, develop skills, and receive feedback from experienced practitioners.

The Myanmar Professional Counsellor Pathway also supports individuals who are currently studying counselling through placement opportunities and Student Counsellor in Training membership, which provides a structured way for learners to develop their skills while receiving guidance and supervision.

Internship Opportunity

For learners who wish to gain practical experience, an Internship Programme at Counselling Corner is available. The internship provides opportunities to learn through observation, supervised practice, and professional mentoring.

This experience helps students understand how counselling is practiced in real settings while continuing their professional development.

Pathway to Becoming a Professional Counsellor

Becoming a professional counsellor is a gradual process that involves learning, supervised practice, and ongoing professional development. The Myanmar Professional Counsellor Pathway supports counsellors at different stages of their professional journey.

This pathway is designed to help counsellors develop their competence responsibly while maintaining ethical and professional standards for the wellbeing of clients.
