Affiliate Memebership
The Myanmar Professional Counsellor Pathway currently recognises members who are actively progressing through the professional counselling pathway. However, there are also many individuals who contribute to the counselling profession and mental health field without currently practising as counsellors.
These individuals may include educators, trainers, researchers, advocates, retired counsellors, or professionals from related disciplines who share the vision of strengthening counselling in Myanmar.
Why does it exist?
The purpose of Affiliate Membership is to:
- Build a broader professional community that supports counselling and mental health.
- Encourage collaboration between counsellors and professionals from related disciplines.
- Provide opportunities for learning, networking, advocacy, and professional contribution.
- Maintain clear public distinction between practising counsellors and non-practising supporters of the profession.
Who can join?
Affiliate Membership may be available to individuals who support the development of counselling and mental health, including:
- Counselling educators and lecturers
- Trainers and facilitators
- Researchers
- Mental health advocates
- Individuals taking a temporary break from counselling practice
- Retired counsellors
- Professionals from related fields who support the aims of the Pathway
- Psychologists and psychiatrists with an interest in counselling
- Individuals with lived experience of counselling (or family members) who wish to support the development of the profession
Applications would be reviewed and approved by the Pathway Committee.
Rights and Benefits
Affiliate Membership would have the rights to:
- Build a broader professional community that supports counselling and mental health.
- Encourage collaboration between counsellors and professionals from related disciplines.
- Provide opportunities for learning, networking, advocacy, and professional contribution.
- Maintain clear public distinction between practising counsellors and non-practising
supporters of the profession.
Affiliate Members would become part of the Pathway community and may receive:
- Monthly Pathway newsletter
- Invitations to professional meetings and member events
- Access to selected Pathway resources
- Participation in learning communities
- Eligibility for selected training opportunities and scholarships
- Opportunities to contribute to public education, advocacy, research, or pathway
development - Networking with practising counsellors and other professionals
Limitations
Affiliate Members:
- are not recognised as practising counsellors under the Myanmar Professional
Counsellor Pathway. - must not advertise themselves as Myanmar Professional Counsellors based solely on
Affiliate Membership. - do not accumulate clinical hours through Affiliate Membership.
are not eligible to supervise counsellors unless separately recognised under the Pathway.
